An Artist’s Ramblings

Hello everyone what a lovely sunny March morning it is.   Someone told me this week that I smile a lot, I believe I learned a long time ago that there is power in a grin that truly lifts the spirit, so today during these difficult COVID times let’s find many ways to smile and bring cheer to those around us.  For myself when I look at a piece of art that resonates with me I will just sit there and grin at it.  I am in my happy place.  What is your happy place?

This week I worked on a painting from a photo I took in Northern Ontario (one of my favorite places).  It was the result of a challenge to do a small 15 minute study from the photo, the idea was to try to capture it as though you were plein air painting.  Because it is still too cold for me to be outdoors painting this sounded like fun.   From that study and without looking back at the photo we were to paint a larger finished version.  This was quite an interesting exercise and way more difficult than it sounds.  What I learned from this is to simplify, simplify, simplify.
